Snap shot one
Zaboo is wearing an apron and cooking mittens over his regular clothes. This is telling the audience that he is taking on a stereotypical woman’s role. Codex on the other hand is in comfy clothes that shows she is not interested in impressing anyone, she is taking on the stereotypical man’s role. This creates the scene to feel like a typical old 50’s style couple’s home.
Setting and Decor
The setting is Codex’s room during the night. Usually Codex’s room is messy with her clothes thrown everywhere and book case unorganized. It’s a mess but in this scene we see her books neatly arranged and her bed looks made. This correlates with Zaboo taking on “womanly” duties and cooking and cleaning for Codex.
There is only one light source and that’s coming from Codex’s computer she is looking into. This tells the audience that this was a cheaply made scene and that it must be night time because of the lack of sunlight shining through the windows behind Codex and Zaboo. Using the computer as the main light helps create a sense of closeness to the characters. It helps connect the audience with the characters it is an everyday life situation that is easy to relate to.
In this scene the audience sees foreground. The focus is Codex and Zaboo however the audience can see things beside and towards the background of them. Shooting this shot so close to them gives the audience the true feeling that Codex was just talking to them one on one but got interrupted by Zaboo. It helps make it feel like a real life scene.
The acting by these two is awkward, weird, and great. They wanted it to feel raw and as close to what it might actually be like to be in that situation. Codex is weirded out by Zaboo still being in her home. Although she just told her audience that the app helped her tell Zaboo that she likes him only as a friend, he comes in the room as if he didn’t register it at all. He then calls her a pet name as if he’s used it for years
Snap shot two
The clothes are simple baby clothes. He is only wearing an orange shirt with a diaper. This indicates Clara is too lazy to change Bellamy’s clothes fully.
Setting and Decor
Bellamy is sitting in his baby seat on the floor near what looks like chair legs. This shows Bellamy’s actual size in ratio with a typical house. He is also sitting next to a plant and it looks like he plays a lot there because of the mess of toys around him. Bellamy licking the power strip indicates that Clara doesn’t watch after him much.
The lighting is natural. It looks like it’s coming in from a window. This type of shot makes the scene feel more natural and like a real life scene the audience would normally see.
The scene is up close to Bellamy but the audience can still see things beside him so this would be foreground space. Putting the camera this low allows the audience to get the Bellamy viewpoint, a unique look on things.
The acting is a natural baby eating a power strip. It shows how raw motherhood can be if you neglect your children. His clenched little toes are so cute and exactly how a 6 month old baby would act especially teething like this.
